"Tumbleweed Obfuscated by Camera Failure" Released
The Aperus album (Remanence's Brian McWilliams) "Tumbleweed Obfuscated by Camera Failure" has been released and is available here at the Remanence Archive and at Atmoworks.com. This turned out to be a very involved project, with the final push proving to be especially challenging. Many thanks to James Johnson who mastered half of it at Zero Music and to Randon Myles Chisnell who helped with post production here at The Sound Observatory. Overall, the entire project turned out looking and sounding much better than I could have anticipated and I'm very excited to finally have it out. Here's the official description of the album:
"Inspired by the obscured photographs resulting from camera problems during a trip to New Mexico, Remanence's Brian McWilliams embarks on his first solo outing. Drawing a parallel with his photographic adventure, 'tumbleweed obfuscated by camera failure' questions the role that control and surrender play in the unfolding of the creative process. In the liner notes, Brian writes '...the album followed a similar course. From concept to song, I tried to achieve one result but ended up with another. Technical problems, endless tangents and my own limitations all lead from a preconceived idea into unforseen territory. Now, for me, the title seems perfect. It serves as a powerful metaphor and reminder that creativity is a process that naturally unfolds.'
Musically, the album explores the meeting point between harshness and light, wandering the borderland between bleak, stark beauty and melodic serenity. Packaged in a DVD case, the album features striking organic artwork and includes a printed velum envelope containing original photos from the New Mexico trip that inspired the release.
Mastered by James Johnson at Zero Music and Brian McWilliams at The Sound Observatory. Additional post production by Randon Myles Chisnell."
Aperus "Hinterland" Due In November
I've also decided to release a companion e.p. entitled "hinterland" containing alternate versions and one unreleased track from the "tumbleweed" album. The artwork for "hinterland" owes some debt to the gorgeous 3" cd's released on the Italian label Amplexus. Hinterlnd will be available in November.
